Today’s smartphone is a very important tool, it serves us both privately and as a business tool. But there is another side to our most trusted devices. They are generally very insecure and riddled with spyware from vendors that puts us both at risk to have our most private data abused to build profiles of us and everyone we talk to as from data being obtained by governments (which is a huge risk to anyone with a sensitive profile such as journalists, activists or even lawyers).
Most smartphones today can be unlocked by a tool called cellebrite that is used by most governments (also in the West). There is one exception to that, phones installed with the highly secure GrapheneOS cannot be opened without knowing the unlock code to the phone, even it the phone is physically in the hands of an attacker.
GrapheneOS is mobile operating system based on the Open version of Android but with the addition of many features to make it very secure and with all tracking software from Google (and mobile vendors) removed or if you do require it for convience, contained so it cannot read your private data.
